Arthur Salzer, CFA

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Arthur Salzer founded Northland Wealth Management in 2011 with a conviction that Canadian families deserved something their banks were not offering: a fully independent, fiduciary advisor with direct access to the institutional alternative investments that pension funds and endowments had used for decades.

That conviction came from experience. Raised on a farm in southern Ontario, Arthur earned his economics degree from McMaster University at 20 and spent the next two decades in investment management, watching the structural conflicts inside large financial institutions work against the families they were meant to serve. The bank advisor earned commissions. The proprietary products earned shelf fees. The client paid for both and received neither transparency nor alignment. Northland was built to eliminate those conflicts.

As CEO, Arthur sets the firm's strategic direction, oversees operations across both offices, and advises several of Northland's largest and most complex client families. He also serves as Co-Chief Investment Officer alongside Joseph Abramson, CFA, MBA, sharing responsibility for portfolio construction, manager selection, and the firm's investment committee process. The separation ensures that no single viewpoint dominates investment decisions.

Arthur's investment philosophy is conviction-driven and long-term. He was among the earliest Canadian advisors to build meaningful allocations to private equity, private credit, real estate, and bitcoin for private wealth clients.

From 2016 to 2022, Arthur wrote the Curve Appeal column in Financial Post Magazine, covering alternative investments, family office strategy, and the structural forces shaping capital markets. His commentary has appeared in Bloomberg, Reuters, BNN, the Globe and Mail, the Financial Post, CTV, CBC, NBC, and the Washington Times. He is a frequent speaker at family office and investment conferences across North America and Europe.

Industry recognition has followed the work. Wealth Professional Magazine named Arthur the Top Ranked Advisor in Canada and twice included him on its annual Hot List of leading wealth management executives. He has been awarded Portfolio Manager of the Year, Multi-Service Advisor of the Year, and is a two-time winner of the Advisor of the Year award for Alternative Investments. Under Arthur's leadership, Northland has received the Best Multi-Family Office in Canada designation three times at the Family Wealth Report Awards and was named Best Multi-Family Office at the 2017 Private Asset Management Awards.

Arthur is an active member of the Family Firm Institute and Family Enterprise Canada, where Northland has been a Legacy Member since its founding. He has served as a judge for the Family Enterprise of the Year Award, evaluating family businesses across Canada on governance, succession, and multi-generational sustainability.

He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Investment Manager (CIM) designations.
